TTQ#4 – Wait for Spring

Featuring , , , , , , ,

During this winter I found myself settled in beautiful Finland, Helsinki. A really nice city, but there are two things to consider before coming here: First, it is really expensive and second, there is almost no electronic music-scene. Additionally loads of snow in the last two months making me really ready for the spring. I can’t wait for it, can’t wait for being back in Berlin and listening to the finest electronic music on the planet. Normally the episodes contain not that much electronic music, because we are too used to it in Berlin – but this time the amount of bass-level rised. I miss that music! Press play in the 8tracks audio player for listening to all tracks in a row – below you can find descriptions, links and streams to the single tracks.

Radical Face – Welcome Home, Son

Track 1/8

First of all no electro but one indie track to get started. Radical Face became famous with that Nikon advertisement, which is actually old. I almost forgot it, but then I watched this little trailer below by two surfers travelling Africa and was totally into it again. Get it on iTunes

Joy – New York (Empire State Of Mind Remix)

Track 2/8

French brothers Joy, originally from Montpellier with a favor for Japanese culture remixing a track about New York? What to say… I was already into the original, and then it’s even harder to convince me about a remix – but that one is just lovely. Download

Grimes – Genesis

Track 3/8

“There is a powerful harmony in Grimes. It is a project which is both musical and visual, embodying the arts of 2D, performance, dance, video and sound. Claire Boucher weaves these together to a strong rhythmic effect, “the marriage between the voice of a human and the heartbeat of a machine” – These lines by Bullet Magazine describes it perfectly. This song is pure spring and summer together. It’s a song about rising feelings. The video below shows some nice impressions of this genius artist. Get it on iTunes

Jonas Mantey – Sie ist Schön

Track 4/8

Okay, there we have a Berlin producer called Jonas Mantey, who is just 16 years old and started making music at the age of 14! This february he landed his first hit. No one knows what comes next, but this song is powered by wonderful harmonies featured by a superb baseline trimmed to a minimal outfit. This guy might have a bright future!

Jonas Rathsman – Tobago

Track 5/8

It’s funny that Göthenburg’s Jonas Rathsman, settled in the north, brings us nowadays the ultimate spring/summer track of the hour. Energetic grooves and dirty drums makes me going totally crazy. Get it on iTunes

PillowTalk – Big Pillows (PT’s Juicy Edit)

Track 6/8

Ohhhhh weeee – Biggie on the mic to some chilled distorted sounds by Sammy D, Ryan Williams and Michael Tello. These dudes are San Francisco based DJs and producers that mix classic R&B, boogie and disco with underground house and techno. Love that laid-back style in this version.

Solomun – The Way Back

Track 7/8

Hamburgs finest house producer Solomun just released a new tune for the Compost Black Label #36 EP and it’s hypnotic. It develops into an endless cypher of feeling good rhythms. Get it on iTunes

Beat Culture – Before You Go

Track 8/8

Another youngster in the last seat of this issue. “I’m 17, I started to make music in February 2011, and I like to make dense, atmospheric, messy glitch/dub songs.” – Perfect description of his music! ‘Before You Go’ by Beat Culture in your headphones will bring you immediately to the nicest beaches in the world – Promise.
